In addition to conventional Surgery, we are now performing many types of surgery using laparoscopic techniques that dramatically reduce pain and speed up the recovery process for your pet.
Laparoscopy has been a standard practice in human medicine for years, but is now starting to become available in veterinary medicine.
At Flannery Animal Hospital, we use single port technique for our laparoscopic ovariohysterectomies (spays) which utilizes one incision, usually less than 1 inch long. This technique is minimally invasive and safer because the entire procedure is performed through this smaller incision while doctors view organs via a state-of-the-art camera system. Laparoscopic spays have far less tissue damage and internal bruising than traditional surgery, which results in less pain, faster healing and a reduced chance for post-operative complications.
Not just for spays
Other surgeries that can be performed include gastropexy, a procedure to tack the stomach to help prevent bloat (GDV) and abdominal organ biopsies.
